Convention Reunions

This past August 7–9, I did my first-ever U.S. show, TerrifiCon in Uncasville, CT. I had a great time talking with readers and fellow creators from all over the United States, a really tremendous opportunity to meet people I wouldn't typically encounter here in Toronto, Canada.

Among those meetings was the one pictured above with Glenn Greenberg. We recently re-connected over Facebook after having no contact for 31 years, but when I was 17 – just a kid in a baseball cap, opening FedEx boxes and making photocopies – Glenn was a writer and Assistant Editor on staff at Marvel. At the time he encouraged me as a young talent, but my network dissolved quickly when Marvel declared bankruptcy in 1996 and I attended my first year of university. I've had minimal contact with anyone from that magical time through the intervening years, so catching-up with Glenn (now in person!) has been a really special experience for me. Back then, he was a (seemingly) proper adult and I was a (super nerdy) high school student... and now we're just two old guys.

Another fun reunion this year was at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) in June, where I tabled across the aisle from Winter Wei. Winter and I once worked together in the corporate world, but I don't think we ever expected to find each other selling comic books more than 10 years later! Winter's latest comic, Magic Up, may or may not be about those, er, delightful employment experiences and I encourage you to check it out.

Added to Hamilton's Cartoon Foundry event at the end of June, and my upcoming appearances at The Word on the Street (9/26-27 in Toronto) and the Mississauga Comic Expo (11/7 in Mississauga), the latter half of 2026 has been a busy time for conventions!
